Long Island Junior Soccer League Player Development Program (PDP) History & Purpose:

The purpose of the LIJSL Player Development Program is to:

To provide high-level training to benefit and enhance the development of these players.

Our goal is to afford each player the opportunity to develop to the best of his/her ability in a safe, fun and challenging environment.  This is accomplished during weekly training sessions led by licensed/certified and Risk Management cleared coaches using the latest coaching methodologies that are age appropriate.  Each age group U12 through high school  have specific technical and tactical goals set by our curriculum based on guidance of the U.S. National Team Program.  In addition to the scheduled weekly indoor/outdoor sessions, opportunities to participate in “friendlys”, tournaments and other training/travel play are scheduled during the outdoor season.  We believe this approach will give each player the greatest likelihood for a successful, rewarding and enjoyable experience that allows the program to improve the overall quality of the player pool and become a significant feeder system to higher level programs at the state, regional and national levels.

Long Island Junior PDP provides players with opportunities to benefit from:

  1. Additional high level instruction and training from top licensed coaches.
  2. Playing with and against a higher level of player.
  3. Additional visibility to college coaches as an older player. In addition, college bound players are helped through participation in various College Forum events. These consist of information sessions on contacts, resume writing and player profiles.

Structure of LIJSL PDP:
Long Island Junior PDP operates at the local level under the governance and policies of Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association. Long Island PDP teams are selected through open tryouts. Those selected receive training in addition to that provided by their club team, and compete in regional summer tournament events or international soccer travel. Players train on a weekly basis, have scrimmage days and participate in a team camp.

Age Groups:

Players are  grouped by calendar year. For the 2015-2016 season, there will be PDP teams in the 2005 and 2006 Developmental Program, and 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004 age groups. 2015-2016 PDP age groups are based on a January 1 - December 31 calendar year.

LIJSL PDP  "An Opportunity to Develop as a Player"

In 2003, the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association implemented and recognized the establishment of district Select programs to support and
compliment the State ODP program. The Long Island Junior Soccer Leagues introduced a district PDP program previously known as the ODP program. The Eastern New York Soccer Program recognizes 6 of such programs across New York . The program provides increased playing and training opportunities for players who play in the LIJSL league.
There are over 500 players participating in the LIJSL PDP both boys
and girls from a developmental U11 program to team play from U12 through U17.
